We’ve spent the last three days on a long drive up to Vigo on the north-eastern coast of Spain in a hired van with the luggage and the bikes and now we’re ready for the adventure to start.

This will be our first time we’ve toured in the autmn.  We thought that if we waited until the middle of September and headed north we would find cooler weather.  We’ve had weeks of the blistering heat at home, with the temperature mostly in the mid-thirties, occasionally over 40 degrees.  Well, we got that right – we’ve had two days of rain on the journey here and temperatures around 20 degrees, we’re perished!  Still, the temperature will be good for cycling- not so sure about the wet stuff.

The route we’ve chosen is a brand new Eurovelo cycle route along the Portuguese coastline from top to bottom.  We’re hoping for smooth, new surfaces and good sign-posting.  Once we reach the Portuguese/Spanish border in the south we’ll continue to cycle home to Colmenar.  We are looking forward to tomorrow with a mixture of anticipation and trepidation.
