Bad Sackingen to Waldshut – 31 kilometres

6 June, 2015

Despite a massive thunderstorm in the night it is no fresher this morning.  I don’t think the actual temperature is any higher than we are used to at home, but it is more humid.  We take our time over breakfast as today is officially a rest day even though we’re going to do a few kilometres up the road to the campsite.

P1060114

Those few kilometres turn out to be over 30, so it is a good job we didn’t keep going last night.  The most eventful moment of the ride came when crossing a railway.  I was carefully watching the lights on the approach and then glanced up the line as my wheel reached the level crossing only to see a train coming down the line towards me.  The lights were not flashing, the siren was not sounding and the barriers had not come down.  Eek!  Fortunately, it was only moving slowly and stopped before the crossing.  Apparently, the line was closed for repairs and the engineers were moving up the line knowing they had to stop at each road crossing, but still it does give you a fright when you’re sitting on your bike with a train coming towards you.

We reach the campsite with plenty of time to do the washing and do some research on the route for tomorrow.  We’ll be reaching a linking section where we don’t have a map and will be relying entirely on the signposts.  Not very hopeful that we won’t get lost as the signs have not been particularly good since we have arrived in Germany.  They tend to put up a sign on a straight bit of road, but when you reach a crossroad or fork and there is a choice to be made – nothing, you just have to guess.

For any of you confused by what a corpu is (yesterday’s post) – this is another ‘android moment’; I type coypu (a large rodent), it changes it to corpus (clearly, it has never heard of one either), I think it has just added an ‘s’ and so delete it and, hey presto, we’re all confused.
