We’ve stayed in the better of the two hotels in Archidona which we were pleased to find open last night. The forecast today is that it will rain by lunchtime. It doesn’t look a bit like rain – same blue sky and sun as always. We’ve carried around wet weather gear for the whole of the trip and not used it once, perhaps we’ll need it today. Let’s hope not. Still, it gives the incentive to get on with it, as does the thought that if we can get home for 2pm we can watch the whole of the last important stage of the Giro d’Italia.
As we make our way home I try to decide if I feel fitter now than when we set off. Not really. Normally there is no doubt, but that is after two or three months not a couple of weeks. Still can’t have done any harm. It has also given us the opportunity to ride with less weight on the bikes by not bringing the camping gear. In all honesty it hasn’t felt much different.
We make it home just after 1pm and shortly afterwards the heavens open and it pours it down. We couldn’t have timed it better.
So, sadly, that’s it until September when we set off on our next adventure. In the meantime, you’ll find us cycling round our local roads – need to get those climbing legs in better shape.
