Day 5 – Carmona to Guillena 48km

May 17, 2016

As I’ve said before what a difference a day makes -we’ve swopped culture, history and beautiful architecture for a modern, purpose-built working town that has seen better days.  We are just a few kilometres north of Sevilla because tomorrow we want to visit a place called Italica.  It is reputed to be the site of the best Roman ruins on the Iberian Peninsula.  Guillena is the nearest place to the ruins with any accommodation.  Such is the nature of cycle touring, boutique hotel one night:

to an absolute dump the next!

The ride today was equally as unexciting – a busy road, loads of lorries, uninspiring agricultural landscape (when I just typed in landscape, it put scapegoat and when I tried to change it, it put in goat’s cheese! Don’t you just love predictive text).  I hope these ruins turn out to be worth it.

Situation Report on the panniers: you’ll be happy to know that after just a small adjustment, all noises have been eliminated.

Situation Report on all human parts in contact with the saddle: only a minor improvement – good for about 20km.

To top off the day it seems that Sevilla have won some football match or other; the world has erupted into a mad cacophony of chanting, car horns and fireworks outside our window.
