Stein – Rest day

19 June, 2015

When we wake up today it is not to the sound of the pitter patter of rain drops, but to the sound of it bucketing down.  After checking the weather forecast and seeing that there will be another week of rain in this region, we explore the possibility of changing our flights to an earlier date.  When the going gets tough, the tough fly home!  It’s not to be because there are only two flights per week from Bratislava to Málaga and with the disruption that the air traffic controllers have caused we can’t get an earlier flight.

A trip round the neighbouring town centre of Krems gives us the opportunity to find a few items that have been eluding us including camping gas, duct tape and Sensodyne toothpaste.  We also come across a very helpful bookshop that is able to supply the next cycling map for the Danube which is from Vienna to Budapest.  So that is our plan, we’ll extend our trip along the Danube towards Budapest and back-track along the opposite bank back to Bratislava for our flight on 29 June.  We’re not sure how far we’ll get, but it doesn’t really matter as we’ll have done our intended route and the rest is just a bonus.  The long range weather forecast for Slovakia and Hungary next week is a bit better than for here.

The rain continues for most of the day.  Let’s hope it isn’t like this tomorrow – we want to make it to Vienna in time to take a look around not spend all day dodging showers.
