Ehingen to Dillingen – 92 kilometres

10 June, 2015

Another grey day, but dry and cool.  We’re travelling further along the Danube valley today and crossing into the region of Bavaria.  The terrain is flatter, and as we ride, we are surrounded by lakes and wetlands.  The area is rich with bird life.

The first big city we reach is Ulm;  a few facts about Ulm – it has the tallest church steeple in the world, Albert Einstein was born there and it is home to numerous important research institutes.  From our perspective it has a very attractive riverside park and good signposting.

The weather stays cool and dry and so we decide that we should aim to camp tonight.  When we look at the map the nearest campsite is at Dillingen.  It is a fair run of around 90 kilometres to get there, but with a good run today we may take a day off tomorrow, if the campsite is nice.

It’s not.  In fact, we nearly decide to move on again tonight.  In the end we stay on a scrappy bit of grass, swarming with mosquitoes, surrounded by tents only inches apart.  We will not be taking a rest day here.
