Just when I was starting to think that it is always cloudy and drizzly in Germany, we wake up to warm sunshine. All our stuff is dry for the first time in a long time. Unfortunately, I still end up with soaking wet kit and shoes because of an incident with the shower. I think it was someone’s idea of a joke to leave the water turned full on and to turn the head of the shower to point horizontally so that when I put my token in the box on the wall outside the cubicle, water blasted out like a fire hose.
Although we’re not passing through big cities all day today, there are a few towns along the route as well as Koblenz, a sizeable city. The route sticks to the riverbank all the way making finding our way easy, but because it is a lovely sunny Sunday thousands of people are out and about. It is a nightmare making our way through the crowds and takes forever.
With hindsight we realise that it would have been a good day to take a rest day as our progress is very slow. We had hoped to find a camp-site early today to give us time to do some washing and, WiFi permitting, get the posts on the blog, uploading of photos, emails and other such things done. We actually arrive later than normal and, even worse, we are short of supplies. It looks like we must have stuffed ourselves yesterday as I know I bought double rations.
