Day 8 – Moura to Evora – 100kms

April 23, 2013

After some research on the internet we discover that the nearest camp-site (100 kms away, so not that near) is at Evora, which is not on our route.  However, we could make a detour there without too much bother and so that’s what we decide to do.

The road is doesn’t look like a main route on the map (a yellow road) but it does turn out to be busy, with quite a few lorries rushing past.  We always try to plot the route on the quiet white roads but as this is a detour we’re stuck with the busier road.  The road itself is a nice smooth surface, is straight and undulating.  Ideal for getting your head down and whizzing along, which is what we do.  The countryside is agricultural, mainly pasture with a few cereal fields, and has a really familiar feel about it – we could be cycling just about anywhere in England.  We keep up the good pace and arrive on the outskirts of Evora where we find that the camp-site is sign-posted.  After a relatively short battle with traffic islands, traffic lights and all other sorts of city mayhem we arrive with the cycle computer showing exactly 100kms – our longest day so far this trip.  We’re still feeling OK, so we must be getting fitter.  The only real problem are my saddle sores which have been getting worse each day – a day off the bike is the only cure.
