Day 43 – Fuente Obejuna to Villaviciosa de Cordoba – 64 kms

So, the skies are black and cloudy again, but it should be fine by lunch time.  We anticipate a hard day’s cycling in the mountains, but, surprisingly, the first 20 or so kilometres are not too bad.  We have a false sense of security about both the weather and the road. By lunch time it is raining and the road has turned into something like the ‘Wild Mouse’ at Skegness (for those not familiar with this, it’s a roller coaster).

After two long days on the road we are treated to hour after hour of climbing in bottom gear.  We’d had vague hopes of reaching Cordoba, but by 4 o’clock the appearance of a sign-post to camping 10 kilometres away is too good to resist.  We’re about 40 kilometres from Cordoba itself, so a bit of re-planning for the next few days is required.  The problem with the camp-site is that the 10 kilometres we travel to get to it are all downhill, which means tomorrow we have to climb back up again.  The positive is that the camp-site is really nice, it has WiFi and no campers except us.
