It is another morning of sun and clouds as we set off to ride a stretch along the Rhône valley towards Grenoble. We have taken the advice of the girl on the reception desk at the camp-site and picked up a cycle route which runs from Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean sea. We follow it for a while but then it goes ‘off road’ onto tracks more suitable for mountain bikes. We had particularly looked forward to this part of the tour through the alpine regions of France and had allowed more time for shorter distances for a few days to give us time to enjoy the area. Just as well with the state of my knees which have just about seized up – although, happily, the hand and wrist are not too bad. I can’t decide whether taking a day off would be a good thing or not – would the rest help or would I seize up altogether? The dilemma is solved as the camp-site we pick can only accommodate us for one night, so we will have to move on tomorrow.
