Day 31 – Monfort to Châteauneuf – 73 kms

021

May 2, 2011

Today we awake to a wet tent and wet belongings again.

We really want to reach St Malo today so as to try to catch a ferry to the UK tomorrow morning.  Again we play ‘cat and mouse’ with a thunderstorm for most of the day, but this time we get caught, and get very wet, on several occasions.  A nice French farmer feels so sorry for us that he invites us to shelter in his barn for a time.

We venture back on the road when the rain slows down but it comes again with a vengeance and so we have to give up our goal of reaching St Malo just 10 km short at Châteauneuf.  We find a nice hotel, where another nice Frenchman takes pity on us and feeds us even though his restaurant is closed.  Yiphee – food!
