We stock up on our food and drink supplies, post our post-cards, get money from the cashpoint and start the day feeling more in tune and organized.
The pleasant rural landscape continues for a time, but then we join a busy road for about 20 km, where the crazy driving we had experienced previously was outdone by the complete insanity of this road. Huge lorries pass us at speed giving only inches to spare. Our nerve is pushed to the limit.
Determined not to make the mistake of yesterday, we start to look for accommodation even earlier in the day. We find a small camp-site that is open and although it comes sooner than we really want, as we have only covered 71 km, we decide to stay there. At least we will get a decent meal. We hit the town centre at 7.00pm and find four restaurants – three closed and one open. We don´t care what is on the menu or how much it costs – we’re eating there. When I ask for the menu I’m told it’s too late! 7.00pm!! When I ask if there is anywhere in the town to eat I receive one of those ‘you crazy English people’ looks in reply. He then mutters something about pizza. We discover this is a van in the town square that makes take-away pizza. We eat pizza from a box in the town square.
