Day 23 – Montalivet-les-Bains to St Georges de Didonne – 39 kms

April 24, 2011

After a night without showers or toilets we hit the road early.  Today really should have been a rest day, but first we need to find a camp-site that is open.  We are lucky to spot a bakery that is open, given that it is Easter Sunday.  Ken attracts looks of disapproval due to his lack of ‘baguette etiquette’.  Instead of jauntily carrying it under his arm, he snaps it in two and stuffs it in his rear panniers.

We cross the river Gironde, which involves a ferry trip, and find a camp-site on the far bank.  No sooner have we pitched the tent than the heavens open putting paid to any chance of washing the kit.

For the second night in a row we end up eating left-over baguette and cereal bars for dinner as we misjudge the time at which the bars and restaurants close – everything was shut by 9.00pm – presumably because it is Easter Sunday?
